Reader Questions Answered & Other Fun Stuff!

Happy summer, everyone! So, I found out yesterday that something was broken on my blog and no one was being notified when I put up a new blog post. OMG, you can only imagine all the swear words that were flying around this house. I might have flipped a few tables and lit things on fire.

Now that I’m calm, I hope everyone is having a great summer. My life right now is filled with being a baseball mom every day, in between trying to get my shit together and write while the kids are home. You’d think this would be pretty easy considering my kids are 10 and 13 and self-sufficient and independent for the most part, but you’d be wrong. If one more child in this house asks me to go somewhere, if someone can sleep over, tells me they’re bored, or just flat-out speaks to me in general when my face is buried in my laptop, I’m putting them both out to the curb with a For Sale sign on them.

You want to know what else my life is currently consumed with? Binge watching Grey’s Anatomy. I watched this show religiously when it was on TV, and I have no idea why I’m torturing myself by watching it all over again. I’m in the middle of trying to write a romantic comedy, and Grey’s Anatomy is not really the best television show to watch to put me in a funny mood.  Everyone dies. Literally. EVERYONE. DIES. Why?? WHYYYYYYY does everyone have to die? It’s a horrible, horrible TV show and yet it’s brilliant. And I can’t stop watching it. Here’s a funny story that happened last night. So, I’m curled up in bed watching Season 5, episode 13. In case you don’t have all episodes of Grey’s Anatomy memorized, this is the one where Lexi Grey breaks Mark Sloan’s penis when they’re having sex. And of course, that’s the exact time my son decides to come in my room and curl up in bed with me.

Spawn: “Did they just say penile fracture?
Me: “Um, yes. Yes they did.”
Spawn: “So, like, he broke his penis? OH MY GOD HE BROKE HIS PENIS!”
Me: “Yes. He broke his penis. Very sad. Poor man.”
Spawn: “OH MY GOD his poor penis. Man, that’s gotta hurt. How did he break it?”
Me: *blank stare
Spawn: “Did someone kick him in the balls and he got a penile fracture? I bet that’s what happened. Or he ran into a table or something. You gotta be careful with your penis.”
Me: *blank stare
Spawn: “Wait, why is he naked under that blanket? He ran his penis into a table while he was naked? Holy crap, that’s REALLY gotta hurt. What an idiot. Who gets a penile fracture by running into a table?”
Me: “You should go to bed now.”
Spawn: “It’s only 7 o’clock.”
-End scene

In case you missed the news, and you might have since no one was receiving updates that I made a new blog post (insert all the swear words here), my newest book, The Story of Us, just released on June 11th! The Story of Us is an emotional, second-chance romance and it’s been getting some of the most amazing reviews I’ve ever seen.

Okay, now on to some fun stuff.  I’ve received a few reader questions recently, so I’m going to answer a few of them here. If you have any questions for me, make sure to leave a comment and I’ll answer some more next week!

What are your current WIPs?? I need more 📚!!! – Nichole M.
Right now, I’m working on something brand spanking new! It’s a 3-book romantic comedy series being published by St. Martin’s Press in 2018. It’s so much fun and I cannot wait to tell you more about it! But right now, I can’t say much other than it’s romantic comedy and you’re going to love it. I’m hoping I’ll be able to share more news on this very soon, so stay tuned!

Will you be writing more in the Holidays series? – Samantha R.
YES! There is a Halloween novella for the Holidays that will be included in a Halloween anthology book called Eye Candy, coming September 5, 2017 from St. Martin’s Press! It’s currently up for preorder everywhere, so make sure you check it out! Click here to see the cover and preorder:
Eye Candy

The Holidays series will also be coming in paperback in December in one big book bundle. I’ll have more information on that soon, but for now you can check it out here: The Holidays Bundle

When will we get the next installment in the Ignite trilogy? – Ginny R.
Sadly, life and other projects got in the way of writing the third book in this series. I’ve recently updated this series so it is now just called The Ignite Series, instead of The Ignite Trilogy. I feel awful that I couldn’t get Scorched finished, but I have to listen to my brain and the voices in there. I tried to force myself to write this book at the end of last year, and all I did was sit at my computer and cry. I wasn’t feeling it, and I can’t write something I’m not feeling or it will just be total crap. The good news is, both of the books in this series (Burned and Branded) can be read as standalones, there are no cliffhangers to leave you hanging and wanting to cut me, and each of those books are about a different couple who each get a happily ever after at the end of their book, so there’s that. I’m not saying I’ll never, ever write this book because it all just depends on what I’m feeling, but right now, it’s indefinitely on hold.

When writing how do you keep dedicated to one storyline? Do you outline when you start writing it or do you just let it come as it does? – Renee R.
I’m slightly insane, so that helps! When a story hits me, I get obsessed. I barely sleep, I forget to eat, and I don’t shower or move until the book is finished. Which is why I write books pretty fast. I wrote Fisher’s Light in 12 days. I wrote Burned in 10 days. And so on and so forth. When a story consumes me, I have to get it out of my head as quickly as possible because I get easily distracted. And I also don’t outline. I’m what they call a “pantser”. I write by the seat of my pants. I make general notes about characters, timeline, location, and jot down a few sentences about certain scenes that I might have dreamed about or can’t stop thinking about, but that’s pretty much it. And it’s physically impossible for me to write out of order. I envy authors who can do this, but I can’t. I have to write the book in order, exactly how a reader would experience it. For the most part, I know how the book will start and I know how it will end, but I have no clue what’s going to happen in between those parts until I sit down and start writing. I might not even know what will happen in chapter 13 until I finish chapter 12.

I’ve been slacking lately in the reading department. I usually read at least 3 books a week but I’ve had so much going on with my son’s baseball and trying not to slowly go insane (more than I already am) having the kids home for the summer while trying to work and my attention span for reading hasn’t been the greatest. Because of this, when I pick a book to read, it needs to be a good one. A grab-me-right-from-page-one book that I can’t read fast enough.

I just finished reading an ARC of Hard Love by Joanne Schwehm. Let’s just take a minute to look at this cover. LOOK AT IT! OMG it’s so pretty I want to pet it. This book comes out July 18th and you’re gonna want to put it on your TBR. It’s been a while since I read a book in one sitting, but once I started Hard Love, I couldn’t put it down. Margo and Noah’s story was sweet, hot, romantic, heart-breaking and absolute perfection. Add it to your TBR here:

Next up is Vanishing Act, by A.M. Madden. This is a new release that just came out June 20th and I immediately one-clicked it. A.M. Madden is an automatic one-click for me. I’m only a few chapters in so far, but of course I’m loving every word! Check it out and grab your copy:
